Retirement Plans for Small Businesses

Authored by Sidney Kess and Barbara Weltman
About this Course
A 2009 survey from the SBA found that only 19.5% of workers in small businesses are covered by qualified retirement plans, despite the benefits of such plans to the businesses and their employees. The key reasons why more small businesses don’t offer plans is cost, administrative hassles, and fiduciary concerns (Prudential Retirement survey, March/April 2015, reported in a letter to the Senate Finance Committee on January 26, 2016).This course focuses on retirement plans for small businesses. It covers these benefits and the plan options that small businesses can use to achieve tax and business benefits. The topics covered in this course include overview of retirement plans, types of plans, comparison of plans, making contributions, reporting requirements, other matters, audits, terminations, plan errors, and legislative proposals. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: List the retirement plan options for small businesses; Explain the contribution deadlines; Discuss fiduciary responsibilities for retirement plans
